1. Can you afford a beardie?
Calculate if you can afford a beardie. Because keeping any reptile is more expensive than other small house animals it is important to calculate all costs involved prior to brining him/her home.
2. Check virarium & Lights
Fully set up the vivarium and test the lights few days before you get your new friend.
3. Cricket Feeder
Get a cricket feeder. This will help you to control the amount of crickets you give him/her and will make the feeding easier for you.
4. Salad Preparation
Prepare the dragon salad in separate container for few days and store it in the fridge to save up food preparation time.
5. Vivarium clean & tidy
Keep the vivarium clean and tidy. No excuses, it requires at least a weekly clean up.
6. Avoid wild insects
Don’t feed to your beardie any wild caught insects or feed the house spiders. They can carry parasites or other illness.
7. Find a reptil vet
Find a nearest expert vet in reptiles and meet the him before you need it. You should be your new beardie is healthy, often times born with parasites and a doctors visit is then necessary.
8. Contact your vet...
… instead of worrying! Please avoid reading horrifying stories online. You can describe the symptoms you are anxious about and ask if a visit is necessary.
9. Brumation
If your dragon starts to be more sleepy than usual and you know he is happy and healthy, don’t panic this could be only a brumation. If you are not completely certain and still it doesn’t let you sleep at night simply contact your vet.
10. Love
Don’t forget Bearded Dragon is a live being not a toy for few days. Please take good care of your new friend and show him/her plenty of love and patience.
